Home Insulation Inspection
Has your energy bill gone up?
Is your home over 10 years old?
Do you experience uneven temperatures around your home?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, it may be the right time to evaluate your attic insulation.
For your free home insulation inspection, our trained professionals consider a variety of factors to determine how your current attic insulation impacts the health, safety and efficiency of your home. During the inspection, we will:
-
- Assess the current condition of the insulation material. We’ll evaluate thickness, cleanliness, and integrity.
- Look for moisture, mold, mildew, and any signs of pests or critters.
- Use a thermal camera to evaluate the attic and determine if there are warm or cool points, drafts, and it is properly sealed.
- Examine ducts for proper sealing and insulation.
- Determine the optimal R-Value for the space and size of the attic.
- Discuss our results with you and offer the best insulation improvement options based on quality and price.

Yes, Your Home May Be Eligible
- My home is over ten years old
Most older homes have less insulation than homes built today, and over time, existing insulation can be damaged by moisture, pests, mold, etc. If your current insulation is undamaged, the R-value still might be too low for your needs. Cellulose insulation can be blown in on top of existing insulation if it’s in good shape.
- My energy bill has gone up
- If you’ve noticed your energy bills creeping up (or suddenly skyrocketing), you should have a professional come in and evaluate your insulation. It is one of the most effective and affordable ways to keep energy costs down.
- I experience uneven temperatures and drafts around my home
- This is a good sign that your attic insulation is inadequate. Cellulose insulation acts like a thick wool army blanket over the top of your house, keeping warm air out in the summer and keeping it in in the winter.
- Improper or damaged insulation leads to temperature fluctuations and is hard on the HVAC system.
- Someone in my home experiences allergies
- Aging or improper insulation can be a breeding ground for mold, allergens, and bacteria.
- Insulation appears to be wet, thin, breaking down, falling, or shifting.
- Over time, extreme weather conditions, leaks, and just normal wear and tear can break down and damage insulation.
- Problems with rats, mice, squirrels, raccoons, insects, and other pests.
- Pests can damage existing insulation and negatively impact its effectiveness. If you have little to no insulation, installing cellulose insulation can prevent infestations because it is treated with borax. Cellulose insulation is also a poor material for rodent nests because it is too loose and falls in on itself.

No, Your Home is Not Eligible
- My home is less than ten years old***
- Most newer homes have adequate attic insulation and don’t need any updates.
- ***If you have a newer home but have had issues with pests in your attic or water damage, we can help.
- Your house has foam insulation***
- Home Insulation ATX works exclusively with cellulose insulation, which cannot be used over existing foam insulation.
- ***If you’re interested in completely removing your foam insulation and replacing it with cellulose for environmental/health reasons, we can help.
- You have a two-story home but only one thermostat***
- In our experience, two-story homes with one HVAC system for the whole house usually have temp differences between the first and second floors of up to 8⁰F even when their insulation is in perfect condition.
- In this case, the uneven temperatures are due to the fact that hot air rises and cold air sinks. You set your thermostat based on the conditions on the first floor, but the second floor will be naturally warmer.
- ***If this is your case but you still think you have problems with your insulation, call us and we’ll answer your questions.
- Your attic has water leaks
- If you have an active water leak in your attic, we can’t install new cellulose insulation because the water will compromise the integrity of the insulation. Once you fix the leak, then we can help.
